“Touching: Flowing Water — 2025 Taoyuan International Watercolor Biennial” explores the purity of beauty through the medium of watercolor, seeking to return to the origins and fundamental themes of art while opening new pathways and possibilities for watercolor practice.

The exhibition brings together 15 distinguished watercolor artists from 10 countries, including Australia, Japan, the United States, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, the Philippines, Switzerland, and Thailand, alongside 17 leading Taiwanese watercolor artists. Together, they offer an in-depth examination of key materials such as pigments and brush fibers, exploring their production processes, characteristics, and influence on artistic expression.

Through a range of formats—including guided tours, academic symposiums, live demonstrations, and workshops—the exhibition establishes a participatory framework that is both intellectually engaging and accessible. Visitors are encouraged to reconsider the expressive potential and cultural significance of watercolor art.

The program also fosters aesthetic literacy among younger participants and broadens their international perspective. Questions and feedback generated on-site engage directly with the core of perception and culture, facilitating meaningful cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogue. In doing so, the exhibition embodies the spirit of its annual theme, “Touching,” while positioning Taoyuan on the global stage and strengthening the city’s cultural and artistic presence.
