Located in Lunzi Community of Yuanchang Township, an area rich in historical and cultural heritage, the project responds to the challenges of rural aging populations and youth outmigration. To reverse community decline, the vision of a “Healthy, Active, and Joyful Living Environment” was proposed.
With strong support from the township head, the project integrated academic and research resources and adopted a collaborative village-building model, mobilizing local volunteers and farmers. Through the revitalization of underutilized spaces and the introduction of age-friendly facilities, the traditional settlement was transformed into an Age-Friendly Resort—a community that integrates production, daily living, and ecology. The project establishes a sustainable and livable model where aging in place is both dignified and enjoyable.
Centered on the core principles of age-friendly design, cultural continuity, and industrial empowerment, the project demonstrates comprehensive spatial revitalization and service upgrading, transforming the community into a place people are willing to revisit and stay.
• Spatial Function Reconfiguration
Idle houses were revitalized into a multifunctional space named Cheng-Xin Workshop, integrating a community grocery store with temple-related cultural elements. This space serves as a daily gathering node for residents to socialize, exchange, and rest.
• Age-Friendly Infrastructure
Responding to the physical needs of elderly residents, the project systematically installed barrier-free ramps, safety handrails, and resting benches along agricultural paths, creating a safe and accessible rural living environment.
• Cultural Tourism and Mobility Integration
By connecting the Mazu pilgrimage routes with historical landmarks, the project established the Lunzi Community Historical and Cultural Route. Electric sightseeing carts and bicycle networks were introduced to improve accessibility and enhance the visitor experience.
• Industrial Transformation and Youth Engagement
Through slow-food education and new agricultural lodging operations, local specialties such as peanuts and garlic were branded and diversified. DIY workshops and summer camps were developed to encourage youth participation and advance local revitalization initiatives.
