The 2025 Yilan Light Art Curation draws inspiration from the unique landscape of the Lanyang Plain—where mountains meet the sea—and from its rich cultural heritage. From the tranquil reflections of Longtan Lake to the maritime imagery of Guishan Island, and the long-standing hot spring culture of Jiaoxi’s Tangwei area, the project constructs a luminous narrative that interweaves nature, memory, and everyday life.
Centered on the emotional theme “Mountain-Sea Romance,” the design incorporates the legendary imagery of the Qixi Festival (The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl), translating themes of encounter, separation, and reunion into fluid spatial experiences between lake and ocean. Simultaneously, the project draws from Jiaoxi’s hot spring culture—rooted in daily life since the Qing Dynasty—transforming steam, warmth, and diffused light into a soothing and immersive sensory environment. During the winter season, international cultural symbols and festive atmospheres are introduced, from the vibrant celebrations of the Hot Spring Festival to interactive street parades, and from warm Christmas illuminations to dynamic urban nightscapes. Light becomes a connective medium that bridges people, place, and cultural exchange.
The overarching design intent is to transform tourism from passive viewing into active participation and emotional engagement. Through interactive installations, spatial storytelling, and environmental upgrades, the project enhances visitor experience, stimulates local industries, and fosters community integration—ultimately shaping a continuously evolving and luminous nighttime identity for Lanyang.
The annual program is structured into three major thematic events:
Season 1: 2025 Yilan Valentine’s Festival
Mountain-Sea Romance · Love by the Lake
Season 2: 2025 Lanyang Hot Spring Winter Festival
Scenic Springs · Tribute to Jiaoxi
Season 3: 2025 Christmas & New Year Celebration
Lanyang Nights Glow Brighter · Joyful Yilan Year
Through this seasonal sequencing, the project constructs a continuous and evolving narrative of light, transforming Yilan into a year-round immersive cultural destination. In Yilan, light is conceived as a language that communicates with the land. The design employs energy-efficient lighting systems and sustainable materials, subtly illuminating the textures of the night while embedding environmental consciousness into sensory experience. The project translates local landscapes and cultural memory into perceptible lighting expressions.
