The theme of this project is Begonia: begonia glass is a classic patterned glass craft popular in Taiwan’s glass industry during the 1950s and 1960s. The pattern, designed by Taiwanese artisans, came from the flower begonia, which holds cultural significance in both Taiwan and China. The glass offers both privacy and an elegant aesthetic. The designer incorporated Begonia glass into lighting fixtures, entryway screen, and doors on the shelves, blending Japanese-inspired design with retro Taiwanese elements, seamlessly integrating culture into daily life.
This residence follows the government-promoted “Kaohaus” design, focusing on natural light, ventilation, and greenery. To match the large balconies and plantings typical of Kaohaus, ENJOY LIFE chose light green honeycomb blinds, which not only extend the greenery effect indoors but also provide insulation against Taiwan’s tropical climate. Since the household has cats, a cat door was installed at the bottom of the kitchen’s sliding door, and the litter box was placed outside, expanding the cats’ space and reducing dust-related allergies.
Inspired by the symbolic meaning of the Begonia flower—deep emotions and a love for life—this home was designed for a couple in their 30s with two children and a pet cat. The husband, a travel professional with strong ties to Japan, inspired the use of vintage Japanese elements blended with a Taiwanese twist to reflect their cultural identity. White hallways and ceilings draw from airplane cabins, adding a modern, airy contrast to the warm wood tones. This design was born from the desire to create a living space that merges family life, cultural heritage, and aesthetic harmony—a home where memory, identity, and emotion coexist in balance.
To maximize space and openness, the designer merged the study and living room without a traditional TV wall, using a swivel mount for flexible viewing. Generous storage with dust-proof cabinets caters to the homeowners' hobbies and keeps the space organized.
