Veiled Light, Flowing Years

Located on the 10th floor in Taichung’s Beitun District, the project is a holiday residence for a family of four. The clients—a couple with refined and understated tastes—desired a peaceful, natural environment that evokes a sense of belonging and relaxation. From the start, they emphasized their wish for a calming retreat that also feels like home. The designers adopted a modernist approach, avoiding ornate detailing and instead using low-saturation materials, integrated storage solutions, and thoughtful lighting strategies to create a serene space where the family could comfortably gather or enjoy solitude.
The core of the design is the TV wall, constructed using embedded vertical and horizontal light strips that define the structure with clarity. Black stone and thin laminate shelving bring definition and cohesion, while hiding wiring and devices behind subtle detailing. One end of the wall transitions seamlessly into a built-in desk, which is connected to both a display cabinet and the entry shoe storage—together forming a double-sided unit. With a total depth of 100 cm (40 cm for entry storage and 60 cm for workspace), this setup delivers clear functionality without interrupting spatial flow.
The open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas are unified through the use of contrasting materials, color blocking, and reflective elements like glass and mirrors to create visual continuity and depth. Hand-applied decorative paint enriches both the walls and ceilings, enhancing the subtle tonality with layered textures and soft sheen. Unshaded floor-to-ceiling windows allow daylight to permeate the space, while side light is introduced through open doorways, ensuring even the dining area retains a gentle brightness. From the entryway, the view into the living area offers a rhythmic and fluid composition, with lighting and detailing connecting every element in seamless harmony.
