Huaying Mountain Rural Renovation Project

Centered on Huaying Mountain’s endemic ecological resources, the design minimizes topographic disturbance during mountain settlement planning. Adopting linear clustered layout, the scheme elaborately arranges mountain, water and lake landscapes to create an original mountain resort wellness layout featured by stacked clustered dwellings, facilitating rural revitalization via cultural tourism-driven development.
Respecting the pristine natural landscape, the design follows the core principle of revering rather than conquering nature, with soil and water conservation set as a fundamental precondition for detailed design. Settlement clusters are arranged in compliance with local terrain via staggered terrace design and rational functional zoning, shaping a distinctive spatial pattern of buildings clinging to mountains, settlements nestling alongside watercourses, terraced clustered blocks connected by crisscross alleys, and forming two featured loop routes respectively themed Wellness Amid Mountains & Waters and Secluded Humanistic Dwelling.
For architectural detailing: the silhouette of Huaying Mountain is abstracted and transformed into architectural forms for the renovated visitor center; the rolling mist and cloud scenery of Huaying Mountain inspires the fluid facade design of hotel buildings. A point-driven-area development approach is deployed to form a circulating commercial corridor and create diversified spaces of streets, alleys and courtyards. By inheriting the spatial texture of traditional Sichuan mountain villages, flexibly layered buildings and enclosed courtyard spaces are constructed to deliver an immersive premium wellness and vacation experience.
After repeated scheme iterations on diverse design possibilities, the finalized architectural forms, building combinations and spatial experiences achieve harmonious coexistence with the natural mountain terrain and form inherent scenic views in their own right under the design tenet of coexisting with mountains. Through systematic master planning and differentiated product development, the design addresses core bottlenecks restricting mountain rural tourist resort development concerning land utilization, transportation routing and industrial product planning.
Rooted in local contextual features, the project realizes regeneration and renovation of Huaying Mountain villages via building renewal, space revitalization and cultural tourism industrial upgrading, striving to forge an iconic cultural tourism rural landmark for Eastern Sichuan.
