The 2025 Miaoli International Kite Culture & Hakka Food Festival is set to be an extraordinary celebration that centers on the rich tapestry of Hakka culture. Utilizing kites as a vibrant medium, the festival creates an annual event that artfully intertwines heritage with local identity. Each year, festival-goers are treated to a stunning display of custom-designed kites, each uniquely themed around Hakka traditions. These kites elevate local symbols into breathtaking aerial masterpieces: for instance, the Hakka conical hat, an emblem of diligence and thrift, and the iconic traditional Hakka blue shirts. As these kites dance in the sky, they invite attendees to connect with the historical narratives that shape their community Moreover, beyond the exhilarating displays and festive atmosphere, the festival offers a rich opportunity for attendees to engage with the deep roots of local heritage. Participants experience a dynamic fusion of tradition and creativity that not only entertains but also fosters a profound appreciation for the treasured values of the region. Thus, the festival stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Hakka culture and its relevance in contemporary society.

At the 2025 event, the sky was transformed into a dynamic stage for culture and art, animated by a spectacular array of kites dancing against the blue horizon. A national flag kite conveyed dignity and collective pride, while the Chibi Red Rice Cake Kite—A Symbol of Joy, Reunion, and Blessings in Hakka Culture— infused the celebration with warmth and happiness, reinterpreting a cherished Hakka festive delicacy as a playful yet meaningful form of aerial expression. A diverse lineup of Hakka-inspired kites followed in succession: jar-shaped kites evoked the abundance of harvest, lantern and firecracker kites radiated festive energy, and the iconic Taiwanese “Qie Zhi Bag” soft kite transformed everyday cultural imagery into graceful aerial art. Together, these creations turned the sky into a living gallery of cultural expression, where tradition and creativity converged in a shared festive experience.
