The TRC Taichung Metropolitan Area Joint Office Building is an innovative architectural project designed primarily for the employees of Taiwan Railway Corporation Ltd. (TRC). At the heart of this design lies the captivating concept of the "Dream Train," which skillfully transforms the imagery of railways—symbols of progress—into an eloquent architectural expression. Nestled on a narrow, elongated site, the building features a thoughtfully arranged cluster of volumes resembling train carriages. This arrangement not only enhances the visual appeal but also reinforces the thematic continuity of movement and transport.

As one approaches the building, the entrance unfolds with a dramatic tunnel-like opening crafted from exposed concrete. This striking design element evokes the sensation of a train traversing a majestic mountain pass, effectively narrating a journey from the past toward a promising future. Furthermore, both the front and rear window frames extend gracefully over 30 centimeters outward. This deliberate design choice not only adds depth to the façade but also serves as a passive shading solution that significantly reduces solar heat gain. Overall, this architectural masterpiece harmoniously balances form and function, embodying a visionary approach that celebrates both the heritage of rail travel and the promise of modernity.

Originally a railway site adjacent to Taichung Station, the only century-old preserved building in Taiwan, this location stands as a testament to both transportation and urban heritage. This project skillfully integrates existing markets and underutilized land, transforming the area into a vibrant public urban interface that not only honors the rich history of Taiwan Railways but also paves the way for future development. As visitors approach, they are greeted by an entrance plaza that seamlessly connects various office buildings, guiding foot traffic in a smooth, orderly manner—much like trains arriving at a bustling station. Above, the plaza ceiling is characterized by striking polygonal recesses and protrusions that establish a compelling sculptural presence, instantly captivating onlookers.
